Our family has been traveling since its inception. I married my wife, Brittany, days before I had to return to South Korea to finish my Army assignment there. She joined me there a month or two after that and we made Korea our home for a brief 9 months. During that sojurn we had our first child (Hallee) at Samsung Hospital in Seoul. When we returned to the states I was stationed at Ft. Hood in Texas, where I finished about 4 years of my 6 year enlistment. During our time in Texas I enjoyed a relaxing 1 year deployment in Iraq, and we had our second child (Aizik). In April 2010, we returned to our home state of Utah where we remain to this day. We had our 3rd child (Huxley) a little over 2 years ago. Alright, I admit--we didn't do all that much traveling.
We recently came to the realization that our lifelong religion is crap and settled on a secular humanist worldview. We've decided that this world is too big of a place to spend life in one place within a single culture. The American ideal of material possession and positional stability is no longer something that makes sense to us. We're a little bit nervous about venturing out without the ease of travel that the military has provided, but we are determined to experience all that this world has to offer.
Our planning stage has just started. We decided to spend the next two years paying off debt, building up funds. selling our belongings--basically getting things in order. Our first target country is Australia, where we plan to be for a year--we're hoping to make it simple to start. We may then head over to Switzerland--we've already started learning French (we figure the language will be useful in Europe in general) in anticipation of this. Where we go after this, I'm not sure. We're open to suggestions and comments.
