HINT: If you want your photo to appear next to your Question or Answer then simply head over to http://en.gravatar.com/ and you'll be able to upload a picture of yourself or you & your children for example and all of a sudden you'll start seeing yourself all over the internet. Lots of blogs use Gravatars to display pictures next to comments. The added benefit is that when people can see who you are they are more likely to connect and answer your question than if they just see the blue gravatar logo.

Family friendly accommodation in Thailand

For Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui in particular.

Hoping for self-contained style or at least a larger room with living area. Ideally a 2 bedroom option with living space - I know I'm probably dreaming.....

Happy to pay $120p/night. (May need 2 rooms given there is 2 x adults and 3 x children). But on this point, can someone tell me if some places are likely to let us have a twin room with 2 x dbl beds so we can share one and the 3 kids can use existing bedding ? Or should I expect to need 2 rooms in most places ?

Looking at Asiaweb deals website and they seem to have some good value deals available.
Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

Hello Cindy, We stayed at Krabi coming to and going from Thailand from Malaysia. We stayed at the I-Talay where we had a 4 bed dorm on the 3rd floor for 250Bht/person and a room with a double bed for 1000 baht (add a bit for A/C in the dorm) There was a very basic breakfast of toast and tea/coffee included. The bathroom was shared. It is located very close to the river where you can take a good long tail tour to a fish farm (a bit of a racket) and then to the cave up stream. That cost us 650 baht for 1 1/2 hours although better deals could probably be had! If you need any other info, let me know! I hope this helps. Don't be afraid to use the local big bus to get from Krabi to Ko Samui (about 1/3 the cost of a mini bus) Greg

We just spent some time at a place in Koh Samui called Baan Sabai-Samui. We had a 2 bedroom (queen size beds, I believe)/2 bath unit for our family (with 2 small kids). http://sabai-samui.com/ We paid about US$85/night and this was during the peak Christmas season, so any other time should be cheaper. The property is great for kids, has a pool with child area. The unit is all tile, and there are no bathtubs. No baby cribs. Definitely had separate bedrooms and a living/dining space plus kitchen with oven, microwave, full size fridge. Laundry very cheap at facilities next door. Downside is that it is not on the beach. You can walk to Fisherman's village in about 25 minutes, Big C shopping center (with kids play center inside) in about 10-15, and probably need a taxi ride (5 min by car) to Tesco Lotus shopping center (with kids play center inside). Walking gets a little old from here after a while though, so if you rent a car or motorbike, it makes life easier. Also, the price did not include cleaning--only rent, utilities, and internet. The on-site staff Joom and Gai were lovely.

Thanks you for the reply. Kalim Bay looks perfect for us. Still looking for Koh Samui as I would prefer something closer to the beach, but thanks all the same. This planning stuff is super fun :)

The Swiss Palm Beach always gets really good reviews for families and also The Residence Kalim Bay is worth looking at. The Swiss is more in the main part of Patong, whereas the Residence is further north and in a quieter area. www.kalimbay.com/ www.swisspalmbeach.com
