Today’s guest post comes from Jennifer Miller who, with Nancy Vogel, has created an online course to help you take a look and discover what it is in life that you really want. I’ll let Jenn take it from here.
What would you do with your family if time and money were no obstacle?
Where would you be right now if you could take your work with you?
What do you wish, more than anything, you could do with your kids?
What would you say if I told you that you can have those things, that you can live your dreams, and you can do so with your kids?
There are hundreds of families the world over, many of them our personal friends, who have figured out how to have their cake and eat it too. They’ve created solid, reliable incomes that they can work on from anywhere over the internet and they’re using that freedom from a fixed location job to follow their passions, do fantastic things with their children, sow deeply into their communities and spend their time on the things that matter most to them.
Our family is one of them. Four and a half years ago we hit the road on bicycles with our four kids, the idea was to travel a year, then go home and get a “real life”. Only two things happened that changed all of that:
- The stock market crashed and our savings disappeared one night while we were sleeping on the highest sea cliff on the Adriatic coast of Italy.
- Somewhere along the way, our gap year became our life.
It was a litmus test for our dreams. Would we run home, tails between our legs and admit our defeat in taking off on a fool’s errand? Instead, we hunkered down in Africa for a winter, learned some new skills, drew upon our existing ones and began to create a way to live and work from anywhere, indefinitely. Four continents and twenty countries later, we’re still going, and the rest, as they say, is history.
My friend Nancy’s family is another one. She and her husband and twin boys rode their bicycles from Alaska to Argentina, in a Guinness World Record breaking success story of epic proportions. It took them three years and made them into gods in the cycling world, but that wasn’t their intention, they just wanted to do something cool with their kids, take a little bike ride, make a few memories, live the few fleeting years of childhood truly with their kids.
Nancy and I have spent a lot of time on cross continental skype calls talking through how to make this kind of life accessible for everyone. We don’t believe that we are just “lucky” or that somehow our families are “special.” We’re not independently wealthy, far from it. We’ve managed to codify the process of taking a dream and creating a reality and we’ve turned it into an online course that is helping many other families to stop doing what they hate and what holds them back and start doing the things they dream of with their kids! We have a ton of fun doing it!
The course is called the Dream: Reboot. It’s an intensive, 12 week program designed to help you define your dream and take the steps you need to to make it a reality, including overcoming the obstacles in your path, finding the funding and launching yourself into a whole new world. And it works!
We only run the class a couple of times a year and we limit the enrolment because it’s a lot of work to invest wholly in someone else’s dream and do what’s necessary to make it success stories happen.
The next class begins this Tuesday, September 4th and enrolment is only open through Monday evening, Sept. 3rd. You will have to move fast to secure a spot! If you’ve been reading other people’s blogs with longing and feel stuck in your own situation when you know, you know that there is so much more out there for your family, then this is it. This is your opportunity to join a community of dreamers and doers, learn what you need to learn, do the hard work and take your life to the next level.
Nancy and I would love to help you do that. In fact, it’s what we live to do: chase big dreams. Will you join us?
